The Office: Internet-Exclusive Content

March 20, 2006

According to my favorite mac only website, TUAW, NBC’s hit comedy series, The Office, will be embracing its Internet success with a few web-only episodes expected to “air” this summer. Money says that they will be available for purchase via iTunes. Let’s all hope so.

Teamwork

March 20, 2006

While everyone should know that when a team’s size increases past a certain point, it faces the productivity paradox, Jeff Bezos puts a very creative spin on team sizing:

“If you can’t feed a team with two pizzas, the size of the team is too large.”
–Jeff Bezos, chairman, CEO, and founder, Amazon.com

From Fast Company‘s recently released book, The Rules of Business: 55 Essential Ideas to Help Smart People (and Organizations) Perform At Their Best

I prefer smaller teams (around 6 people), but that’s just because of my managing style. I imagine CEOs need to be able to manage teams of this size. I’ll get there.

Glenny’s = Crazy Delicious

March 14, 2006

glennys

I’ve been eating Glanny’s brand soy crisps for awhile now, and I finally realized that they are the perfect snack. Yum. Glenny’s soy crisps are low in calories, high in protein, and they taste great ta boot. The Caramel and Apple Cinnamon flavors have replaced my breakfast some days and they make a great dessert. The Creamy Ranch and the Barbecue are perfect for an afternoon snack. I must say that the Garlic Onion isn’t as flavorful as I would have liked, and the Cheddar is just the opposite, but they are still very good. For a salty alternative to potato chips, maybe try the Sea Salt variety. I haven’t had any of Glenny’s other products, but I’m sure they are all exceptional in quality. Check out the website for free offers (aren’t all offers free?).

My iMac Adventures

March 8, 2006

Cartoon, originally uploaded by SeanLucas.

This is a picture taken with photobooth on my new Intel iMac. It’s a fun little program to play around with alone, but I can see the real appeal is having friends come over and take “candid” shots. The photobooth has a bunch of different filters/effects that it can add to a picture. This one is called cartoon. I was hoping for the “Chuck” effect (from the charles schwaab commercials), but I’ll just have to do it the old fashioned way in photoshop.

In other interesting news, I’m hoping to go to Prague in May. For this to happen, I am going to have to save up enough money to buy a Canon 30D, otherwise it just won’t be worth it. Marc told me that people are just lined up at the airport to give tourists a place to stay for the night. His friend did it for $6 a night. We’ll have a good time as long as the absinthe keeps flowing.

Saturday: The Half King and Marquee

March 6, 2006
Marquee

The weekend started out a little boring: Friday I stayed home to catch up on TV and watch my netflix movies. I think I drank alone. In my despair, I took the opportunity on Saturday to stay in, and not go shopping, not get my haircut, and not get a new metrocard. The weekend looked like it was shaping up quite nicely (read: BORING). Then the call comes in. Melissa was going to meet her friends at D’ron over on the westside. Surprisingly enough, they were are dinner until 1:00. Melissa and I bided our time at The Half King, an Irish dive in the that area. After a $200 bar tab, patron shots, and a car bomb, Melissa’s friends arrived to save us.

Sam wanted to go to Bungalow 8, but I suggested Home or Marquee, since they were right down the corner. It was my first time to Marquee, and I was impressed. Besides the $20 entrance fee, $3 coat check, and $40 drink order minimum, the atmosphere was great. I especially liked this guy. Too bad he didn’t have more collars popped.

In the end, the club turned on the lights in an almost surreal moment. When all the kids who knew each other only as a half-intoxicated blur, things suddenly came into focus. Like a middles school dance, suddenly the kids had to stop making out in the corner and try to make their way home.

This is where things get a little hazy. I don’t remember the train home. Just that a cop woke me up and I got off the subway one stop too early. It was cold and I was tired. To reward myself, I slept until 4, ate a yogurt in bed, and moved to the couch, where a long afternoon in an ever state of being hungover was only augmented by MTV’s Parental Control. From now on, Saturday nights are reserved for sleep.

Another Reason to Love Mel

March 5, 2006

Mel Gibson is going to be promoting his new movie Apocalypto at the Oscar’s this week. No surprise there, but he is doing it an unconventional way: he’ll be speaking in Mayan. I guess we’ll could be hearing an entire speach promoting Arianism and we would have no idea. In other news, I will be watching neither the Oscars nor a four-hour long movie in Mayan.
